Dubai is taking a bold step in embracing digital innovation. Residents and businesses in the city will soon be able to pay for government services using cryptocurrencies.
A New Partnership
This move is part of a partnership between the Dubai Department of Finance (DOF) and Crypto.com, a global cryptocurrency platform. The agreement was announced during the Dubai FinTech Summit in May 2025.
With this partnership, users can pay for selected government services using cryptocurrencies. The crypto payment will then be converted into dirhams (AED) before reaching the Dubai government.
Simple and Secure Transactions
Crypto.com will act as a link between users and the government. It will ensure all transactions are safe, secure, and compliant with local laws. The goal is to make payments easier, especially for tech-savvy users and companies in the digital space.
Supporting Dubai’s Vision
This initiative supports Dubai’s “Cashless Dubai” strategy, which aims to shift most financial transactions to digital formats by 2026. It also aligns with the city’s goal to become a global hub for financial technology and innovation.
The new system is expected to:
- Make payments more flexible and modern.
- Encourage wider use of digital currencies.
- Support the growth of the crypto and fintech industries.
Boost to the Economy
According to experts, this step could add over AED 8 billion ($2.2 billion) to Dubai’s economy every year. It positions Dubai as one of the first governments in the world to accept cryptocurrency for public services.
What’s Next?
Details about which services will accept crypto payments and when the system will launch are expected soon. For now, the announcement marks a major milestone in the region’s digital transformation.
