Dubai’s Blue Line Metro: Sheikh Mohammed Lays Foundation Stone

On June 9, 2025, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum officially laid the foundation stone for Dubai’s new Blue Line Metro. This event marks a major step forward in expanding the city’s transport network.
A Historic Day for Dubai Metro
The ceremony took place on a date of great importance—9/6/2025. The number nine holds special meaning in the Dubai Metro’s history. The original Metro launched on 09/09/2009, exactly at 9:09:09 PM. Now, the Blue Line is set to open on September 9, 2029, to celebrate 20 years of metro service in the city.
The World’s Highest Metro Station
During the ceremony, officials unveiled the design for Emaar Properties Station—set to become the highest Metro station in the world. It will stand 74 meters tall and feature a modern, golden cylinder-style design. The station will be a hub for transportation, shopping, and real estate opportunities.
Emaar has secured naming rights for the station for 10 years. Other station names along the Blue Line will be announced soon.
A Vision from the Past Comes to Life
The event included a historical gallery honoring the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who dreamed of a city-wide metro system. Rare photos of Sheikh Mohammed using global railway networks were also on display, highlighting Dubai’s journey toward world-class transport.
Designed by World-Renowned Architects
The new station was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM)—the same firm behind the Burj Khalifa and other global landmarks. Covering 11,000 square meters, the station blends futuristic design with Dubai’s urban feel. It will support up to 160,000 passengers daily and directly serve Dubai Creek Harbour’s 40,000 residents.
New Bridge Over Dubai Creek
The Blue Line will include Dubai’s first Metro bridge over the Creek, stretching 1.3 km. This bridge will improve east-to-west travel and offer scenic views of the city.
Conclusion:
Dubai’s Blue Line Metro is more than a transport project—it’s a bold statement about the city’s future. With world-class design, improved connectivity, and sustainable goals, this new line will serve as a key part of Dubai’s smart city vision.
